Memorial Day

In celebration of Memorial Day, the whole family decided to go swimming. Hunter enjoyed being in the water and just looked so relaxed in his float. He stayed in that pool for hours. So when we got home to give him a bath, he actually fussed at us for the first time. He really didn't understand why he had to get back into the water again!!

He knows he can get away with so much by giving us this look

There is nothing better than watermelon on a hot day. He has had watermelon before but has never eaten it like this. He loved it... but like a man, he loved it more when I held it for him to eat!

The watermelon was so good that we had to take his clothes off to prevent stains on his swimsuit. He did not mind, no clothes+watermelon= a great day.

He loved it when his Daddy finally was able to get in the pool with him! I just love watching them together. Matt is such a wonderful Dad and I feel so blessed to say that he is the father of my child.

Shopping

My mom and I had the urge and desire to just walk around and "window shop". We started the day off by going to Kohl's, then it was raining so we went to Brookwood (we can park in the parking deck and not get wet) and ate Chick-fil-A. As we were eating, Mimi gave him a french fry and he wasn't too sure about it. It was not shaped like the other french fries that he has eaten at Burger King. So he ate some of his crackers and then tried to throw the french fries in the floor. I caught them before they hit the floor and made him aware that you DO NOT waste Chick-fil-A!! We browsed around Belk's for a while and found Matt some Sperry flip flops for part of his Father's Day gift. We got one size and then had to go back before we left to swap them out to a smaller size. So finally we got the right size and Matt loves them! The rain had stopped by this point and the sun was shinning so we decided to go to Watermark and find some good sales on clothes for Hunter. As I was getting his stroller out, I realized that there was a flip flop in it, I paniced thinking it was one of Matt's that we bought and I was hoping that we didn't leave with just one flip flop. So Mimi checked our bags and found Matt's pair of shoes so it looks like Hunter tried to keep ONE for his Daddy. Too bad its the wrong size!! My son is already a criminal, but he is a cute one!

We have got to get this poor baby some rocks to walk in. This was probably the highlight of his day!
When we finally got back in the car, he started holding up his rain jacket. I think it was his way of saying bye.. we aren't quite sure :-)
Overall we had a wonderful yet exhausting day. Mom and I use to do this all of the time and it was nice to do it again.

I once thought that I would be a very "thrifty" grocery shopper and so I started collecting coupons and joined southernsavers.com and we all organized and ready to save money. Well... since we are members of Sam's and have a very busy life right now, these coupons were just collecting dust. While doing some spring cleaning, I thought I should go through my coupons and throw out the ones that are out of date. Hunter LOVED this part of cleaning... I would just throw the old ones in the floor and he played and played and talked to the coupons. I think he was actually fussing at me for not using them and I tried to explain that if I used them, he wouldn't have had anything to play with!! Matt was out of the room while we were making a mess and he came back in very shocked and wondering what in the world were we doing. I told him that we were cleaning!! haha :-)

He was having so much fun!!

Monkey Fun!!

Last Thursday, May 20th, my little man turned ONE! I can't believe it. People always warned me that time would fly by, but I never realized to what extent until I had my own child. Now I think back to that song that states "Don't blink cause just like that, your baby's growing like mine did....." (Can you tell I am having a hard time with him turning one!?!?) To celebrate his birthday we went to eat Mexican for lunch. We even had them sing happy birthday to him and from the look on his face, he really doesn't understand what they are doing and why they are making so much noise!

The lady at the restaurant loves to play with Hunter and so she was going to give him her tambourine to play with. He was not sure about it and just stared at it as if he was asking her "what in the world do you want me to do with that" It really surprised me that he didn't take it from her because he loves any toy and especially one that makes as much noise as possible. He knows it drives his momma crazy! We even had cupcakes for him to eat. He liked the icing until I just had to put a piece of the "cake" part in his mouth and he did not like that one bit. He cried and cried because I put that in his mouth. I even ate one to show him that they were good but that did not matter, his mind was set and it was not going to change.

My grandmother brought him some of my old toys from her house. This one was a phone....notice how it has the phone with a cord attached to it...it's hard to find ones like that anymore. He has a toy that is like a cell phone and so when he plays with my old phone, he picks it up and looks at the cord so strange because he knows we all have phones without cords. So I officially have the "old" toys! The week before his birthday, Hunter was in the hospital for because he had a bacteria infection that caused part of his gut to stop moving, therefore everything was backing up. He was in so much pain but after a day and a half of staying in the hospital, he was much better. Until the last Tuesday when he started running a fever so we took him to the doctor and he had the fever virus. On his birthday he was in the final stage of the virus, so after getting him out of the house for just a little bit (the times he didn't have a fever) wore him out. He has been exhausted for the past couple of weeks, but hopefully soon he will be able to catch up on his sleep.
This past Saturday we had a Monkey Birthday party for him at Marble City Baptist Church. I hope the next birthday parties are easier because I truly stressed over this one. I wanted it to be perfect because we were expecting a huge crowd. Unfortunately some sad things came up and some of the family had to miss and then my cousin graduated from High School so he couldn't make it. I am so proud of him for graduating!

My step-mother, Teresa, made his birthday cakes. She owns Teresa's Catering. This one was for the guests to eat. I will admit, Matt and I are still working on trying to finish this cake. It was HUGE! We are so grateful for her kindness in making the cakes for Hunter, we couldn't have done it without her. Thank you to everyone who helped decorate, buy food, serve, clean up, etc. I am so grateful and in debt to you guys! We couldn't have pulled it off without you.
This was Hunter's cake to "play" in.
This is Hunter and I with Marley and Lyla Grace. Marley and I grew up together and have known each other since Kindergarten. We were both pregnant at the same time but she was due a couple of weeks after me. Well the night before I was to be induced, Marley went to the hospital because she was having contractions. They made her stay overnight and induced her the next day an hour before me. So we ended up having these two precious children across the hall from each other!!! What a blessing!!

He was still not sure about the cake. I guess he was still scarred from me giving him the cake from the cupcake.
We are so thankful for all of the wonderful gifts that Hunter received. He got so many things to keep him occupied for a long time. He got a wagon, tricycle, clothes, toys, money, etc. Wow this child is spoiled rotten!! :-)
Sunday was our rest day. We played outside with the wagon, swung on the swing, and then went swimming. We had a blast having nothing "planned" for the day and just doing whatever we wanted to do.

Happy Birthday Hunter!

Happy First Birthday Hunter!!
I can't believe a year ago today I was at St. Vincent's hospital anxiously awaiting for Hunter Edward Brannen to arrive. I had been waiting too meet him for 9 months! In my tummy I had felt him kick, move, get hiccups, "dance" and now it was time to come out and meet his parents, family, and friends who love him so much. He was very comfortable in my tummy and was not ready to come out; I was in labor for 9 1/2 hours until my nurse and I decided that we have not tried laying on my left side. So I rolled over and was getting pretty comfortable and could have easily taken a nap until 10 minutes later he got mad enough that he decided that coming out would be a lot better!! :-) Matt and I were so happy to meet our precious little boy!!! We were also very proud of him, while the nurses were giving him his shots... he did not cry at all. He was already such a tough guy!! Since that day, he has been such a blessing and has made so many people happy. He is so handsome, loving, caring, (and can't forget about him being a BIG flirt). I honestly do not know what Matt and I did without him in our lives. It has been a wonderful year and I can't wait to see what is in store for this year. We love you Hunter so much and hope you have a wonderful birthday!!!
This is Hunter at the hospital the day he was born

Yes I know he has on Christmas pj's. His Mimi bought them for him before he was born so we got a 9 month old because we figured that would be the size he would be in at Christmas. However, he is so tall that they fit him at 3 months old instead! It was Christmas in August!!

7 months old

8 months old

Thank you Lord for bringing Hunter into our lives. He is such a blessing. Please guide and help us as we try to mold him to be a man of your word. I pray that YOUR WILL will be done in his life.

-Amen

Mother's Day

First mother's day

Little girls have always dreamed, Of one day being grown;
Of having a home and family,And children of their own
As little girls they played the games,With dollies cuddled near;
Of being grown up Mommies,And now that day is here.
For cuddled sweetly in her arms,Of the little girl now grown;
Is the sweetest dream she ever dreamed,A baby of her own
In all the years of growing up,In the games that little girls play;
None will ever be so sweet,As her very first Mother's Day
-By Allison Chambers Coxsey

It seems like just yesterday that I became a mother to Hunter. It has definitely been my honor and privilege to be called his Mom. I do not remember what life was like without him. He as been a treasure to have in mine and Matt's life.

I had the best Mother's Day. We ate lunch with family and then went home to spend the rest of the day just the three of us (Matt, Hunter, and me). We watched movies and played outside!

My mother and I... I do not know what I would do without her. She is not only my mother and Hunter's grandmother, but she is also one of my best friends. She is a wonderful mother and I pray that I can be half the mother to Hunter (and hopefully future children) that she was to me. Thank you Mom for everything!

How in the world could you say no to this little stinker!?!?! He is definitely the light of my world!
